European Athletics Championships medal ceremonies postponed as police make arrest

Medal ceremonies at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham were postponed on Saturday evening after West Midlands Police arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of fraud, who remained in custody for questioning. The incident also led to transport being suspended at Alexander Stadium, which was near its 23,000 capacity. Six medal ceremonies scheduled between 10pm and 11pm were cancelled, with the decision linked to the police arrest, while Great Britain had earlier won gold medals in both the men's and women's 4x100m relays.
