European Boxing Championships: Gallagher edged out in lightweight quarter-final

Jude Gallagher was eliminated from the European Boxing Championships in Bulgaria after losing his lightweight quarter-final to Spain's Ewart Andres Marin Hernandez on a 3-2 split decision. The bout was scored 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 28-29, 28-29 in Hernandez's favour, denying the County Tyrone boxer a medal by the narrowest of margins. Gallagher had appeared to grow into the contest after a close opening round but ultimately fell short.
