Europe’s top clubs threatened Club World Cup boycott before Fifa plan collapsed

Europe's leading clubs, represented by the European Football Clubs (EFC) group, threatened to boycott future Club World Cups unless FIFA president Gianni Infantino withdrew his FIFA Forward Enterprise scheme. The EFC sent a letter to FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström stating their cooperation with future tournaments depended on Infantino backing down and on a joint EFC-FIFA venture being completed before television rights are sold for the 2028 Women's Club World Cup. The ultimatum was issued hours before the FIFA Forward Enterprise plan was ultimately scrapped.
