Ex-Paralympian, F1 driver Zanardi dies at 59
Alex Zanardi, a former Formula 1 driver and four-time Paralympic gold medallist, has died at the age of 59. Born in Bologna, Zanardi competed in F1 for five seasons before a 2001 crash led to both his legs being amputated; he went on to win two para-cycling gold medals at London 2012 and two more at Rio 2016. His death was confirmed on Saturday and prompted tributes from organisations including the FIA, which described him as 'an enduring symbol of courage and determination.'
