F1 Commission cuts grand prix race distances for 2027 - RACER

The F1 Commission has approved a reduction in grand prix race distances from 305km to 290km starting in 2027, equating to two or three fewer laps per race. The change is a direct consequence of a 5% increase in fuel flow tied to raising the internal combustion engine's maximum power output from 400kW to 420kW, with further increases planned for 2028. Rather than enlarging fuel tank sizes to accommodate the higher fuel flow, stakeholders including the FIA and teams agreed to shorten race distances instead.
