F1 race distance: Why 305km and what changes in 2027

Formula 1 Grand Prix races are defined by a minimum distance of 305 kilometres, with Monaco being the sole exception at 260 kilometres, plus a two-hour time limit. Race distances were not standardised in the early World Championship era beginning in 1950, and a notable regulatory change followed the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix. From 2027, F1 race distances will be reduced under updated regulations.
