F1 Races Are About to Get Shorter

Formula 1 has officially confirmed that grand prix race distances will be shortened from 305 km to 290 km starting in 2027, reducing races by two to four laps per event. The change is a compromise to accommodate new engine regulations that shift the power distribution ratio between internal combustion and electrical energy to 58/42 in 2027 and 60/40 in 2028, without requiring costly fuel tank redesigns. The decision was approved by Formula 1's Commission on Monday, with Monaco remaining an exception at its traditional 260 km distance.
