F1 returns to Africa with 10-year deal to race in Rwanda
Formula 1 has signed a landmark 10-year agreement to host the Formula 1 African Grand Prix in Rwanda, marking the sport's return to Africa for the first time since 1993. The race is expected to join the calendar in the early 2030s, once a new purpose-built FIA Grade 1-standard circuit is completed in Bugesera, approximately 40 kilometres south of Kigali and adjacent to the new Kigali International Airport. The project is part of a broader sports, tourism, and infrastructure development initiative led by the Rwanda Development Board.
