FA and WSL launch major study into ACL injuries in women's football
The English Football Association and WSL Football have launched a major research project to investigate why ACL injuries occur more frequently in women's football, with the aim of reducing their occurrence. The study will be conducted in collaboration with Imperial College London and sports knee surgeon Simon Ball, led by PhD researcher Hanna Lehtovirta. ACL injuries are twice as likely to affect women than men, and high-profile England internationals including Leah Williamson, Beth Mead, and Michelle Agyemang have all suffered such injuries in recent years.
