The English Football Association has received approval from IFAB to trial a new rule cracking down on goalkeepers who feign injury to disrupt game flow or allow tactical instructions, set to be implemented across men's and women's professional football in England during the 2026-27 season. The trial was championed collectively by Pro Ref, the FA, Premier League, EFL, WSL, and the National League. The new Premier League season opens on August 21, with Arsenal hosting newly promoted Coventry in defense of their title.
