FIA explains safety car finish at F1 British GP
The FIA has attributed the controversial finish of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone to a software error in race control's messaging system. After Max Verstappen crashed with six laps remaining, the safety car was deployed, and following the unlapping procedure, the system briefly displayed 'safety car in this lap' suggesting a one-lap restart, before updating just eight seconds later to 'safety car deployed,' keeping the safety car out for the final lap. The error caused confusion over whether there would be a final-lap shootout, ultimately resulting in a safety car finish to the race.
