FIA failed to listen to warnings over its 2026 F1 rules change – Coulthard

Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard has criticised the FIA for failing to heed early warnings about the shortcomings of F1's 2026 technical regulations, which introduced a 50-50 split between electrical and combustion power. Coulthard noted that drivers and engineers flagged concerns before the rules were introduced, with problems becoming apparent as early as the season-opening Melbourne Grand Prix, where cars exhibited unexpected deceleration into certain corners. While acknowledging that F1 reacted positively by introducing changes after the Miami Grand Prix, Coulthard firmly placed responsibility for the initial failures on the FIA, with further regulatory adjustments planned over the next two seasons.
