FIA, FOM and Formula 1 stakeholders agree 2027 and 2028 regulation changes to try fix the sport
The FIA, FOM, teams, and power unit manufacturers have agreed a package of Technical, Sporting, and Financial Regulation changes for the 2027 and 2028 Formula 1 seasons. The amendments were prompted by energy management issues identified during the opening races of the 2026 campaign under the sport's new power unit framework. The changes focus on rebalancing the contribution of the internal combustion engine and energy recovery system, adjusting fuel energy flow, and increasing team flexibility in energy management, with the goal of making qualifying sessions more flat-out without harming race performance.
