FIFA says Leandro Paredes did NOT get red card sparking World Cup final brawl
FIFA has confirmed that Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes did not receive a red card following his actions after the 2026 World Cup final on Sunday, July 20, despite FIFA's official match tracker briefly listing one. Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium, after which Paredes grabbed Spain defender Eric Garcia by the throat and knocked him to the ground, then shoved Gavi, sparking a brawl. Although the red card entry was subsequently deleted from the tracker, Paredes is still expected to face FIFA disciplinary action for his violent conduct.
