FIFA to raise WC prize money amid cost concerns

FIFA is set to increase prize money for the 2026 World Cup in North America after concerns from European national associations that operational costs would be significantly higher than at the Qatar 2022 tournament. An improved financial package, which will also boost development funding for all 211 FIFA member associations, is expected to be approved at a FIFA Council meeting in Vancouver on April 28, 2026. Discussions are ongoing, but FIFA confirmed it is actively in negotiations with associations worldwide to increase available revenues.
