Flat-out and energy saving: How Formula E’s Gen4 race format is taking shape

Formula E is developing a new race format for the Gen4 era beginning in the 2026-27 season, following discussions at Paul Ricard. The planned format will combine 'performance' and 'efficiency'-focused races to showcase the Gen4 car's capabilities, including over 800bhp and lap times faster than current Formula 2 machinery. The FIA is close to finalising the new regulations as the series looks to balance outright speed with its traditional energy management identity.
