Fog delays U.S. Open, play resumes just after 9 a.m.

Heavy fog suspended play at the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Play was halted at 7:05 a.m., just 30 minutes after the first group teed off at 6:35 a.m., and resumed approximately two hours later when the foghorn sounded at around 9:05 a.m. Despite the weather delay, around 1,300 fans had already passed through the screening gate at the Calverton shuttle bus by the time of the stoppage.
