Fonseca backs up Djokovic upset, ousts Ruud to reach Roland Garros QFs

Nineteen-year-old Brazilian João Fonseca defeated two-time Roland Garros finalist Casper Ruud 7-5, 7-6(8), 5-7, 6-2 in three hours and 55 minutes on Sunday to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final. The result came just two days after Fonseca stunned 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic in a comeback from two sets down. Fonseca will next face Jakub Mensik in the last eight, with Brazilian legend Gustavo Kuerten watching from the stands at Court Philippe-Chatrier.
