Former Alabama basketball player wins $9.25m in defamation case against New York Times

An Alabama jury ruled that the New York Times defamed former Alabama basketball player Kai Spears by incorrectly reporting he was present at the scene of a fatal shooting. Spears was awarded $9.25 million in damages as a result of the verdict. After leaving Alabama, Spears went on to play college basketball at Marshall and West Liberty.
