Former England rugby captain Phil Vickery to donate brain for research after CTE diagnosis
Former England rugby captain Phil Vickery, 50, has pledged to donate his brain for research after receiving a probable chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) diagnosis approximately two years ago. Vickery, who won 73 England caps and helped England win the 2003 Rugby World Cup, is among more than 1,000 former players involved in legal action against World Rugby and other governing bodies over alleged failures in duty of care. He has openly admitted to having considered suicide and hopes his brain donation will advance research into neurodegenerative diseases.
