Former NFL player Alphonso Smith Jr. dies at age 40

Former NFL player Alphonso Smith Jr. has died at the age of 40, with TMZ reporting his death was by suicide in Florida. Smith was a standout cornerback at Wake Forest, where he set an ACC record with 21 interceptions and was inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame in 2021. He was selected 37th overall in the 2009 NFL Draft.
