Former Tour de France winner Egan Bernal gifts Thymen Arensman podium place at the Giro: 'He deserves it'

At the 2026 Giro d'Italia on Tuesday, May 26, Thymen Arensman (Netcompany INEOS) moved into third place overall after a strong performance on the final climb to Carì, putting him on course for a podium finish in Rome on Sunday. Team-mate and 2019 Tour de France winner Egan Bernal rode in support of Arensman, sacrificing his own race pace when Jonas Vingegaard attacked 6.5 kilometres from the finish, allowing Bernal to move up to tenth overall.
