Formula 1 Agrees to Major Engine Rule Changes for 2027 and 2028
Formula 1, the FIA, teams, and power unit manufacturers have agreed on a two-step engine rule change for 2027 and 2028, announced ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The changes involve a staged rebalancing of internal combustion engine (ICE) and Energy Recovery System (ERS) contributions, with ICE maximum power rising from 400kW in 2026 to 420kW in 2028 and 450kW beyond. The adjustments aim to address energy management issues and make qualifying more competitive while preserving the racing quality of the new regulations, with ratification expected later in the month.
