Formula 1 announces return to Africa with Grand Prix in Rwanda in early 2030s
Formula 1 has officially confirmed that Rwanda will host an African Grand Prix starting in the early 2030s, marking the sport's return to Africa after approximately 40 years. The race will be held at a new circuit in Bugesera, southeast of the capital Kigali, under a 10-year contract. The last F1 race on the African continent was the South African Grand Prix in 1993, and the announcement fulfils a long-held ambition for seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, the only Black driver in F1.
