Formula 1 News: F1’s Frankenstein Cars strike again in Singapore
For the second consecutive Formula 1 weekend, software control issues disrupted proceedings, this time at Singapore's Marina Bay circuit during SQ1 qualifying. The Overtake Mode system — the 2026 replacement for DRS — was incorrectly toggled during a session restart, meaning some drivers completed their qualifying lap with an extra half-megajoule of energy (raising the allowance from 8.5 MJ to 9 MJ) while others did not. This followed a wet-weather power-unit software bug the previous weekend at Sepang that caused cars to crawl or stop on the formation lap, delaying the race start by nearly an hour.
