Formula 1 team bosses back and trust the FIA's ADUO system for 2026 engines
Formula 1 team bosses Toto Wolff (Mercedes) and Mattia Binotto (Ferrari) have publicly backed the FIA's Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) system ahead of the 2026 engine regulations. The ADUO mechanism was designed to prevent a single manufacturer from dominating, with Red Bull Ford Powertrains identified as the benchmark following the FIA's first assessments in June 2026. Mercedes, Ferrari, Audi, and Honda-powered teams are all expected to receive extra development opportunities to help close the performance gap, as confirmed during the FIA team principals' press conference in Barcelona.
