Formula 1βs Monaco Controversy Just Escalated
McLaren has formally lodged an appeal with the FIA International Court of Appeal over the decision to rescind Pierre Gasly's pit lane speeding penalties from the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. Gasly had originally received two five-second penalties totaling 10 seconds post-race, dropping him from third to seventh place, but Alpine's appeal led to the penalties being overturned after it was found that incorrect measurements provided by Formula 1 caused a miscalculation. McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who served his own pit lane penalty during the race, expressed concern that the verdict could set a damaging precedent for future appeals.
