Fortunato and González the favourites in Madrid

The Gran Premio Internacional Madrid Marcha race walking event will take place on Madrid's Gran Vía, featuring men's and women's 10km races with competitors from 18 countries. Italian Francesco Fortunato, 31, is considered the favourite in the men's event after breaking his own world 5000m race walk record of 17:54.48 in Ancona earlier this year; the men's field also includes seven of the top 10 finishers from last month's World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brasilia. Before racing begins, organisers will pay tribute to Ecuador's 1996 Olympic and three-time world 20km champion Jefferson Pérez.
