Four-time Tour de France winner Froome retires

British cyclist Chris Froome, 41, has announced his retirement from professional cycling after a career in which he won the Tour de France four times, with his last title coming in 2017. His retirement follows a serious crash in August 2025 in which he collided head-on with a road sign at over 30mph, sustaining five broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a lumbar vertebrae fracture, and a pericardial rupture. Froome had not raced since that incident.
