France’s Paul Magnier sprints into pink on crash-marred Giro d’Italia opening stage

French sprinter Paul Magnier, 22, won the opening stage of the Giro d'Italia, claiming the pink jersey in a reduced sprint finish. A late crash in the peloton severely disrupted the field, leaving only 11 riders able to contest the finale. Magnier emerged victorious from that small group to take the overall race lead.
