From pro cyclist to age-group triathlete: "I just have to take as much advantage as I can on the cycling!"

Former professional cyclist Greg Van Avermaet has transitioned to age-group triathlon after retiring from cycling. He was introduced to the sport at Jan Frodeno's Sgrail gravel ride triathlon event shortly after retiring, and went on to complete an Ironman 70.3 in Knokke-Heist, Belgium in 2024, where he qualified for the race in Marbella. Van Avermaet acknowledges his cycling background gives him a significant advantage in the discipline, and aims to make the most of that strength as he competes in the sport.
