Garand gets first NHL shutout, Rangers blank Red Wings
Dylan Garand made 22 saves to record his first NHL shutout as the New York Rangers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 at Little Caesars Arena on Friday. The 24-year-old achieved the shutout in just his fourth NHL game, having been cut, placed on waivers, and then recalled within the same week due to Joonas Korpisalo's injury. Sean Durzi and Eeli Tolvanen scored for New York, who improved to 2-1-0 on the season, while John Gibson made 19 saves for Detroit in their season opener.
