Giro d’Italia: Paul Magnier wins stage one but finish marred by mass crash

French rider Paul Magnier won the opening stage of the 2026 Giro d'Italia on Friday, edging out Tobias Lund Andresen in a bunch sprint finish after 147km of racing from Nessebar to Burgas, Bulgaria. The stage was marred by a late crash that left most of the peloton, including defending contender Jonas Vingegaard, out of contention. It was the first of three opening stages to be held in Bulgaria.
