Guerin “confident” Hughes will reach new contract with Wild

Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin expressed confidence on Monday that defenseman Quinn Hughes will sign a new contract with the team, though acknowledged 'we can't make him sign anything.' Hughes, who won the Norris Trophy in 2023-24 with Vancouver and was acquired by Minnesota in a blockbuster trade on December 12, 2025, has been eligible to sign since July 1 and can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The 26-year-old had 53 points in 48 regular-season games and 15 points in 11 playoff games, while also helping Team USA win gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
