Hamilton demands action to tackle "ridiculous" cost of motorsport
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has publicly called on the FIA and Formula 1 to take action to reduce the costs of grassroots motorsport, describing karting expenses as 'ridiculous.' Hamilton noted that an eight-year-old he knows has parents spending over one million dollars per year on karting, contrasting this with his own early career when his father spent £20,000 in the first year by remortgaging their house. He argued that it is now 'highly unlikely, if not impossible' for someone from a normal background to compete at the highest level, and that those running the sport must be held accountable.
