Hamilton is Formula 1βs oldest grand prix winner since 1970
Lewis Hamilton won a Formula 1 grand prix on June 14, 2026, becoming the oldest driver to win a race in over 50 years, surpassing Jack Brabham who last achieved the feat at the 1970 season opener in Kyalami. Hamilton, now in his 40s, is the first driver to win a grand prix in their fifth decade since Nigel Mansell's victory at the 1994 Adelaide season finale, and becomes the 10th driver in history to win a round of the world championship after turning 40. The only driver ever to win a race in his fifties remains Luigi Fagioli, who was 53 when he shared victory with Juan Manuel Fangio at Reims in 1951.
