‘He’s the best’: magical Messi becomes World Cup’s all-time leading scorer
Lionel Messi became the all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup history, surpassing Germany's Miroslav Klose whose record of 16 goals was set in 2014. Messi scored twice in Argentina's 2-0 victory over Austria, bringing his total to 18 World Cup goals. He had earlier missed a penalty before netting his record-breaking 17th goal seven minutes before half-time and adding an 18th with the final kick of the match.
