High temperatures force horse racing abandonments
Four of Britain's five scheduled horse racing meetings on Wednesday were abandoned due to forecasts of extreme heat. The Met Office issued a rare red heat warning covering parts of England and Wales from 09:00 BST Wednesday to 21:00 Thursday, with temperatures potentially reaching 38-39°C. The abandonments were made in accordance with the British Horseracing Authority's hot weather policy.
