Highest-earning PL clubs to pay £1.8m to regulator

The UK's independent football regulator (IFR) has proposed a levy that will see the highest-earning Premier League clubs pay up to £1.8million in its first year of operation (2027-28), with most PL clubs paying around £600,000. The total projected cost across 116 clubs in England's top five divisions is £20.3million in year one, rising to £20.9million in 2028-29 — double the government's original £10million estimate. Premier League clubs are expected to cover approximately 85% of annual IFR costs, with fees proportional to club revenues, and costs could rise further as the regulator's £45million set-up expenses are gradually recovered.
