History: 50 years since the last time a woman started a Formula 1 race
August 15, 2026 marks exactly 50 years since Italian driver Lella Lombardi made her final Formula 1 start at the 1976 Austrian Grand Prix, driving a Brabham BT44B for RAM Racing and finishing four laps behind race winner John Watson. Lombardi remains the only woman to have scored points in an F1 grand prix, earning half a point for sixth place at the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix at Montjuich Park. No woman has started a Formula 1 race in the five decades since her appearance at the Austrian Grand Prix.
