Home hero Matthew Hudson-Smith surprised with stand naming ahead of Birmingham 2026 Championships

Two months before the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships (August 10-16), organisers surprised British sprinter Matthew Hudson-Smith by naming the extension of the North Stand at Alexander Stadium after him. Hudson-Smith, the European record-holder and second-most decorated male European athlete in history, was raised in Wolverhampton and trained with Birchfield Harriers. The stand naming was unveiled in front of his family and first coach Sharon Morris, and will remain in place for the duration of the Championships.
