“I couldn’t be prouder” – Geraint Thomas hails Josh Tarling’s Vuelta stage podium days after brother Finlay’s death

Josh Tarling of Netcompany INEOS finished third on the opening stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España, a time trial held in Monaco, also claiming the first white jersey of the race. This came little more than a week after the death of his younger brother Finlay, 19, who died following a collision during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal. Teammate Geraint Thomas praised Tarling's performance, explaining that returning to professional racing had been an important part of the Welshman's coping process, supported by his family and team.
