Infantino apologizes to FIFA Council, avoids key issues
FIFA president Gianni Infantino apologized to his toughest critics during a 3.5-hour FIFA Council meeting in Zurich on Thursday but provided no new documents or details on key controversies, including the $4.2 billion World Cup sell-off plan he launched and dropped in July, or the Folarin Balogun red card case involving U.S. President Donald Trump's intervention. European officials, including FIFA vice president Debbie Hewitt of the English Football Association, pressed Infantino for written evidence on his private equity World Cup plan but were instead asked to submit written questions. FIFA also announced it would review whether to continue awarding the peace prize that was created to give to Trump last December.
