‘I’ve been chased and shot at’: Denzel Bentley on trauma, street violence and brutal boxing politics

British middleweight boxer Denzel Bentley has been stripped of his WBO world middleweight title after the sanctioning body refused to allow him to defend his belt against Shane Mosley Jr at London's Copper Box Arena on Saturday, rejecting his appeal that he was entitled to face the world-ranked contender ahead of his mandatory challenger. Bentley, who grew up in Battersea, has also spoken publicly for the first time about the trauma of witnessing violent deaths among his friends and personal experiences of being chased and shot at. Despite these challenges both inside and outside the ring, Bentley says he is determined to continue pursuing fights and world titles.
