Jackson breaks North American shot put record with 21.02m in Berlin

American shot putter Chase Jackson broke the North American record with a throw of 21.02m at the ISTAF meeting in Berlin on August 30, 2026, surpassing the previous North American mark of 20.96m set by Cuba's Belsy Laza in 1992 and her own US record of 20.95m from June 2025. Jackson, a two-time world champion, achieved the record-breaking throw in the first round and added three more throws beyond 20 metres. She becomes only the second woman in 14 years to surpass 21 metres, joining Dutch record-holder Jessica Schilder (21.09m in May), marking the first time since 1990 that two women have exceeded 21 metres in the same year.
