Jakob Ingebrigtsen to run 5000m at European Champs

Jakob Ingebrigtsen has confirmed he will compete in the 5000m at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham in August, marking his first race since undergoing Achilles surgery at Stanford Health Care in February performed by Dr Amol Saxena. The two-time Olympic champion has not competed at all in 2026 and last raced outdoors at the World Championships in Tokyo in September, where he finished 10th in the 5000m and failed to progress past the 1500m first round. Ingebrigtsen will defend his European title in the 5000m rather than the 1500m, with the event scheduled to be decided on the opening day at Alexander Stadium.
