Jets GM Cheveldayoff 'comfortable' with Hellebuyck trade to Devils

The Winnipeg Jets have traded three-time Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils, with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff confirming the deal on Friday. In return, Winnipeg received forwards Dawson Mercer and Nick Bjugstad, goalie Nico Daws, the rights to Alexander Command, a 2029 second-round pick, and a 2027 seventh-round pick. The trade resolves a prolonged saga that began when Hellebuyck requested a trade during the offseason and was subsequently suspended on September 16 for failing to report to training camp; he was in the third year of a seven-year, $59.5 million contract.
