Jockey Joe Fanning, 55, has retired with immediate effect after recovering from prostate cancer, which required treatment that kept him off horses since last year. Fanning was the winning-most active jockey in Britain and was closely associated with the stable of trainers Mark and Charlie Johnston. He announced his retirement following his recovery from the illness.
