Kartal battles past Ostapenko in Wuhan to secure spot in first-ever WTA 1000 final

British tennis player Sonay Kartal defeated former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 7-6 (9), 7-6 (5) in straight sets at the Wuhan Open to reach the biggest final of her career. The 24-year-old fought back from behind in both sets and saved six set points during the match. The victory comes in only her second tour-level tournament since returning from six months out with injury, and will see her become the new British No 1.
