Keely Hodgkinson reveals how freak canal accident ruined world record bid

Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson has revealed that a freak accident during a canal cooldown run, in which she tripped and fell, derailed her plans to chase the 800m world record this summer. The incident, likened to whiplash by her team, contributed to complications including a hamstring tear she sustained at the European Championships in August. Hodgkinson is set to run her final race of the season at the Athlos meeting in London on Friday, having recently returned from the injury.
